Cocalico High School- 1st Placement

Cooperating Teacher- Robbie Trescavage

January- March 2017

  • Led daily rehearsals with the one-hundred member Symphonic Band, the sixty member Wind Ensemble, two seventeen member Jazz Ensembles, Band sectionals and lessons on all woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Taught sixty students in a forty-five day course of General Music 9, which included designing curriculum implementing student technologies.

  • Utilized GarageBand and iMovie technology in General Music settings. Specifically creating songs, commercials, and jingles using the one to one student-technology initiative.

  • Created original lesson plans for each class aligned with state and national arts and education standards.

  • Prepared ensembles for adjudications at both the county (LLMEA) and state (PMEA) levels.

  • Differentiated instruction to facilitate inclusion of special needs/multicultural students at all levels.


Cocalico Middle School- 2nd Placement

Cooperating Teacher- Amanda Narehood

March 2017- May 2017

  • Assisted in teaching the 80-member 6th Grade Choir, sections of Grades 6-8 General Music, implementing SmartMusic, iMovie, and GarageBand programs in the keyboard laboratory.

    • 6th Grade General Music included preparing students for a STOMP project, implementing non-traditional percussion instruments into groups to create and perform their original compositions.

    • Taught Guitar classes for 7th Grade General Music.

    • 8th Grade included teaching a Music History Unit that covered all time periods, as well as a Composer Podcast. Students also completed a composition with words assignment designed to put GarageBand loops together with original story telling.

  • Created original lesson plans for each class aligned with state and national arts and education standards.

  • Taught with Cocalikuimba Drumming Ensemble, an after school program designed to teach students multicultural aspects of West African dancing and music.

  • Assisted with 6th, 7th and 8th Concert Bands, and Jazz Bands at the Middle School with Mr. Doug Kulp.

  • Prepared students for and attended PMEA District 7 Elementary Songfest at Lebanon High School in April.

Listed below are four lesson plans that were used for the different lessons that I taught while at Cocalico High School with the Cocalico High School Symphonic Band.

Included in the lesson is the objective, or what we planned to accomplish in the lessons, what activity we should we doing to accomplish the objectives, the materials that are used in the lessons, and looking ahead to next week's lesson, and the various assessment techniques that will be used to assess students.
